Guerrilla warfare has long been seen as an irregular and undisciplined struggle waged by adventure seekers. The fact that the parties exposed to guerrilla warfare labelled this type of struggle as banditry and brigandage has been the source of this style of historiography. However, guerrilla warfare has caused important turning points throughout military history. Guerrilla warfare, conducted in cooperation with the regular army, has often played a key role in the victory of the weaker side.
In this study, the activities of the guerrilla gangs established by the Spanish after Napoleon's invasion of Spain and the Kuva-yi Milliye, which emerged in Anatolia against the invasions of the Allied Powers, were compared. In addition, the principles of guerrilla warfare and the extent to which these principles were implemented during these struggles were analysed.
