Propaganda has a long history in the history of painting and has been used for different purposes in various periods. Propaganda images have been a powerful tool to influence people's thoughts and feelings, convey a certain message and direct society. Both art and propaganda are forms of visual communication. Both convey a message through emotions, but they serve different purposes. These are religious, political, revolutionary, war and advertising purposes. Propaganda has been used in a wide range to influence society and convey a certain message by using the power of art. Art can be used as a means of communication that has a powerful impact on society, and when used for propaganda purposes it can influence people's thoughts, feelings and behavior. At the same time, art can be a powerful tool for resistance, critique, awareness and social change, and can raise people's awareness. It is possible to see examples of artists' direct intervention in the world of politics or examples that represent artists' perspectives and positions on the social conditions they find themselves in. In this article, the similar and different aspects of the concepts of art and propaganda are examined from many aspects such as purpose, method and materials, and how painting is used for propaganda purposes in various periods and how it is an effective means of communication.
