1657626693 UNCHANGED MEANING OF HAND-KNIT JERSEYS

Hand-knit is based on acquiring a surface by placing knots side by side and one on top of the other with the help of knitting needles. This research aims at explaining the historical process of 4 iconic jerseys being knitwear with a least change in form and the meaning it possess and the meaning of it and aesthetic codes it has within historical period and compiling the symbolism knit products present in design within the concept of “jersey” that is translated into Turkish as jumper made of wool and compiling all these under an article. It was targeted to explain the values and status of the ambient in which the clothes were produced, the change and interaction the clothes went through within the years and subjective and objective dimensions of social and cultural codes with the aim of revealing the codes the jerseys known as Aran, Fair Isle, Guernsey and Gansey possessed in a period. It should not be forgotten that another source that a textile designer can make sense of the collections is historical readings. The reason for that is historical readings will help designer solve the meaning and functionality lied behind the style-aesthetic of product. Textile designers shall recognize the cult products come to our day with the same aesthetic codes in compliance with the original in form and material and without becoming different in semiotic terms. It is for certain that designers shall define the direction of the change, if any, in an ambient as fashion in which there is continuous change and explore the following change. On the contrary to this, if there is not too much change as it is seen here or not any distinct change, designers shall try to explore the secret of unchangeability.
