1549961369 REFLECTIONS OF ACTIVITIES OF TEACHER UNIONS IN TURKISH PRESS IN THE PERIOD OF JUSTICE PARTY (ADALET PARTİSİ) (1965-1971)

Teachers have been organized since 1960s by forming syndicates and associations in line with their political views. The purpose of such teachers' unions which were active in that period such as Primary School Teachers Union (İLK-SEN) and the Teachers 'Union of Turkey (TÖS) was to attempt and to ensure the establishment of a socialist order in the national education system. These organizations, which stated that the expectations of Turkish society can only be met in the presence of socialist order, have made various actions in order to defend the socio-economic rights of the teachers and to establish a socialist order in the country. On the other hand, the purpose of the MÖB , which react to the activities of these unions was to prevent the domination of socialist order in Turkey ,which appear as one class override the other class .The system defended by MÖB is the establishment of a society in which all classes are in solidarity. For the realization of this order, the commitment to spiritual and national values in society and education should be increased and these values should be supported.
Between the years of 1965-71, when the Justice (Adalet) Party was in power, political parties representing the right and left views also played a dominant role in the activities of the teacher unions. For this reason, the unions have become a subsidiary organ of the political parties. The involvement of these teachers' unions in the political environment caused them to move away from their main objectives. In the study, it was aimed to make an evaluation of the activities of the teacher unions on the education system and the teaching profession between the years 1965-1971, when the Justice (Adalet) Party was in power.Within the scope of this study,National newspapers Liberty (Hürriyet), Republic ( Cumhuriyet) , Interpreter (Tercüman) ) were scanned between 1965 and 1971, and descriptive analysis and document review techniques were used in the analysis of news related to teacher unions. These newspapers were selected aimfully according to “criterion sampling“ method. The data were taken from archives of all three newspapers. While selecting the news, attention has been paid only to the training related parts of the teacher unions.
