1538336633 UNDER THE CASTLE AS AN EXAMPLE TO PHYSICAL THEATER RESEARCHES IN TURKEY

The art of theater has gradually moved away from the dominance of dramatic text, with the paradigm shift that began with the historical avant-garde movements. The theatricality process of the theater, which started with the tendencies towards realistic theater, has evolved from textual theatricality to the stage theatricality. The tendency of physical theater is one of the examples that have found theoretical and practical value in this direction. In the physical theater, there has been a shift from mimetic actors who are obliged to play the verbal situations drawn by dramatic text, to creative actors who put their physical narrative into the foreground. In the physical theater, besides this new definition of the player who started to produce the play with all his physicalness, many aspects of the theater, such as play, stage, audience, are reinterpreted. In the first part of this article, the pedagogical principles of the Lecoq School, which has a contemporary physical theater tendency will be focused on. Following that, the play ‘Under the Castle’ which was staged by the artists during the 2017-2018 art season, who came together within the structure of Physical Theatre and Comedy School in Turkey and who have built their contemporary art productions on Physical Theater studies, will be discussed.
